Coup de coeur
(Philosophy), by
Robert Sapolsky examines the thorny philosophical topic of free will through an exploration of the neuroscience that underpins our every action. Despite the considerable complexities and controversies involved, Sapolsky manages to make his ideas (including the neuroscience) clear, readable, entertaining and convincing. No small feat. The end result is a revolutionary but thoughtful, humane and progressive proposal for how life without free will might look. Determined may not convert but it will give plenty of food for thought. Be warned though, it can be a bit unsettling
