A James Joyce Yearbook
James Joyce
Maria Jolas
Stuart Gilbert

First edition, one of 950 numbered copies on Alpha du Marais paper from a total printing of 1000 copies. 19.5 x 14.5 cm, original stiff cream wrappers printed in green and black, glassine dust jacket. Paris, Transition Press. 1949
Maria Jolas had hoped to make this celebration of James Joyce's work a yearly publication, but it appears that this was the only issue ever produced. It includes a number essays by Joyce's friends and admirers, as well as the short text "Ad-Writer", ascribed to James Joyce himself. As a footnote explains: "The above unsigned letter was found among Paul Léon's papers; its authorship, however, would appear to leave no doubt." Slocum and Cahoon B30.
A near fine copy.
