Our services relate to all the books and similar marketed by the Bookstore, referred to here as “books”. They are limited to the countries appearing on the list of delivery addresses which you can consult at any time. We are committed to providing all the care customary in the profession for the implementation of the service offered to the client.
2. Your order and its validation
You declare that you are at least 18 years old and have the legal capacity or hold parental authorization allowing you to place an order on the site. Any order made on the site must correspond to the normal needs of a household.

shakespeareandcompany.com's automatic recording systems are considered to establish proof of the nature and content of the transaction and its date. Consequently, the data recorded by shakespeareandcompany.com constitutes proof of the transaction between Shakespeare and Company Bookstore and its customers.
The data recorded by the secure payment system constitutes proof of financial transactions.
After placing your order, you will receive bank email(s) as well as commercial email(s) confirming your order. The electronic invoice(s) will be available on the billed customer's account.
3. Information on the website
The content on our site is provided for general information only. Any descriptions or visuals contained in Shakespeare & Company's catalogue and website are produced for the sole purpose of giving an approximate idea of the goods/books referred to in them. Although we make reasonable efforts to update the information on our site, we make no representations, warranties or guarantees, whether express or implied, that the content on our site is accurate, complete or up to date.
They shall not form part of the contract nor have any contractual force.
4. Our prices
Book prices are fixed by the publishers in accordance with the Lang Law number 81-766 of August 10, 1981 and can therefore be modified without notice by them. However, your books will be billed to you at the rates in effect at the time the order is placed.
The prices for France and member countries of the European Community are indicated in Euros, all taxes included, excluding shipping costs which are proposed by us and invoiced in addition to the cost of the books.
In the context of delivery to a country that is not a member of the European Community, prices are indicated excluding tax and excluding shipping costs specified in our offers and invoiced in addition. For any delivery outside mainland France, you are considered to be the importer of the acquired books. Customs or import duties, taxes specific to the States of destination are likely to be required by the tax authorities of these countries. These rights and sums are not the responsibility of the Shakespeare and Company Bookstore, they will be your responsibility. For more information, check with your local authorities. All orders, whatever their origin, are payable in Euros.
Items remain the property of Shakespeare and Company Bookstore until full payment has been made.
5. Availability of books
Our products are offered within the limits of available stock.
For items not stocked by Shakespeare and Company Bookstore, our services are subject to availability from our suppliers. Details about availability are displayed on the product page, they come from our suppliers and any errors or modifications are therefore beyond our control.
In case of unavailability beyond 30 days of an ordered article, you will be informed by email. The cancellation of the order for this product will then be carried out, the rest of your order remaining firm and final.

6. Your payment
Payment for your purchases is made by bank card, on the website of our partner Axepta BNP Paribas.
The security of online payments is ensured through the "Verified by Visa" and "MasterCard SecureCode" programs.
Your card will be debited at the time of validation of the order by our services. Your payment is then irrevocable.
7. Securing orders and banking information transmitted
shakespeareandcompany.com is subject to a security system. We have adopted the SSL encryption process which offers maximum confidentiality of data transmitted over the Internet. This process is reinforced by internal and external security systems protecting sensitive data. This ensures that your credit card details will only be known to our partner bank. (BNP Paribas via the ATOS secure system http://www.atosorigin.com).
In the event of a payment incident such as excessive or doubled debit, fraudulent use of your card after cancellation, Shakespeare and Company has taken out specific insurance, which ensures you a quick refund of the sums withdrawn.
8. Personal information
The Shakespeare and Company Bookstore undertakes not to disclose to third parties the information that you communicate to it. This is confidential and will only be used by the internal departments of the Shakespeare and Company Bookstore in order to process your order and ensure proper personalization of the services offered by the shakespeareandcompany.com site. However, if you access shakespeareandcompany.com via hypertext links from other partner sites of the Shakespeare and Company Bookstore, some data concerning you may be communicated to these sites with the exception of bank details.
The information collected by shakespeareandcompany.com is only intended for your identification and is considered as personal data and protected as such by the French Data Protection Act of January 6, 1978. You therefore have the right to access and rectify data concerning you.
Cookies: The user is informed that during their visits to the site, cookies may be automatically installed on their equipment and may or may not be temporarily stored in memory or on their hard drive. 9. Delivery or Click & Collect
The articles can, according to your choice of delivery method, be collected from our shop in Paris, or sent to the delivery address indicated by you when placing your order.
- Home delivery
The delivery times indicated correspond to the processing and delivery times for books destined for metropolitan France. In the event that the articles of the same order are available on different dates, the delivery time announced will be the longest time. However, the Shakespeare and Company Bookstore reserves the right to split its deliveries in order to ensure the best service. Only the transport and shipping costs displayed when ordering will be charged.
Please note : No delivery to postal boxes will be allowed.
- Click & Collect
Buy directly from our website https://shakespeareandcompany.... and choose to pick up your items in store. We are preparing your order as soon as possible, a confirmation email will be sent to you once the item is ready. The period of availability of products in store is indicated in the Customer's order confirmation email.
Once this email is in your possession, you can go to collect your order at our Click & Collect Counter, located at the back of the shop in the Poetry section with the following documents:
- the order confirmation email
- a valid identity document (ideally of the one who placed the order or that of the recipient of the order)
If there is a queue to enter the bookstore when you arrive (as sometimes happens at busy times), please show your confirmation email to the person at the door and you will be allowed in to pick up your order directly. If the products purchased are not collected within 30 days of the date of availability, the order will be canceled automatically.
The Shakespeare and Company Gift Voucher is available online for in-store pickup only. It cannot be used to make purchases on the website and is valid for one year from the date of purchase. Online gift certificate orders cannot include additional items for shipping, which must be purchased in a separate shopping cart. The Shakespeare and Company Gift Voucher can be used for full or partial payment of any Shakespeare and Company bookstore item (books, tote bags, notebooks, postcards). The Gift Voucher is non-refundable. Likewise, there will be no change given in the event of the purchase of an item priced below the value of the gift voucher and cannot be used in our Café.
10. Your right of withdrawal
You have a period of 30 (thirty) days from receipt of your order to return an item that does not suit you. The return costs will be your responsibility. The price of the purchased item(s) will be refunded to you. Kindly note that the shipping fees for the shipment of your order won't be reimbursed.

11. Warranties
In accordance with the provisions of the legal guarantees of conformity and hidden defects, we will refund or exchange products that are defective or do not correspond to your order.

It is recalled that within the framework of the legal guarantee of conformity, the consumer:
- benefits from a period of two years from the delivery of the property to act vis-à-vis its seller;
- can choose between the repair or the replacement of the product, subject to the conditions of cost envisaged by the article L. 217-9 of the code of consumption;
- is exempted from providing proof of the lack of conformity of the goods during the six months following the delivery of the goods. This period is extended to 24 months from March 18, 2016, except for second-hand goods.
The legal guarantee of conformity applies independently of the commercial guarantee that may cover your property. The consumer is reminded that they can decide to implement the guarantee against hidden defects of the item sold within the meaning of article 1641 of the civil code and that in this case, they can choose between the resolution of the sale or a reduction of the sale price in accordance with article 1644 of the Civil Code.
12. Intellectual Property
All the elements of this site (texts, images, sound recordings, databases, architecture, etc.) are the property of Shakespeare and Company or of rights holders accepting reproduction on this medium.
Bibliographic information is provided by the Gardners database or produced by the Shakespeare and Company Bookstore. Any reproduction of elements of this site without the authorization of the owner is strictly prohibited. However, do not hesitate to contact us to obtain authorization.
13. Applicable rights
These general conditions of sale are subject to French law. In the event of a dispute and after an attempt to find an amicable solution, only the French courts will have jurisdiction.
In accordance with the provisions of the Consumer Code concerning the amicable settlement of disputes, the bookstore adheres via the Syndicat de la Librairie française to the Service du Médiateur (contact details: Médiation-Net Consumption - 3 rue des Morillons - 75015 Paris).
You can use the mediation service for consumer disputes related to an order placed with the bookstore. In accordance with the rules applicable to mediation, any consumer dispute must first be reported to the bookstore in writing to : Librairie Shakespeare and Company, 37 rue de la Bûcherie 75005 Paris.
After prior written action by consumers vis-à-vis the bookstore, the Mediator's service may be referred to for any consumer dispute whose settlement has not been successful.
